Planning for the future.   I’m a Red Seal automotive and Heavy Duty mechanic with 20 years of experience in the logging & construction industry; I’m looking for contract work on central/mid Vancouver Island after June 2014.   Key qualifications: §  Dealership trained, I’ve been continuously contracting full-time for the past 11 years under my own company. §  Previously Cummins and Komatsu certified. §  Fully-equipped service truck complete with 2.5T crane, compressor, welder. §  Contracting to the same company for the past 17 years; §  accountable to manage all maintenance and repairs for 25 pieces of iron as well as all fleet vehicles of a local Alberta logging company; §  responsible for all aspects of prevention, repair and upkeep, completed on-time and on/under budget; §  sound knowledge of preventative needs of entire fleet of iron as well as fleet vehicles and  able to anticipate wear on components to ensure replacements are on-site before failure; §  supervise and coordinate a crew of 10+ employees; §  efficient in managing and prolonging parts stock and consumables to align with budgetary considerations; §  extensive contact list on which to draw to source and expedite parts to ensure maximum uptime on equipment; §  sought to provide input and recommendations to Management on the most suitable models for purchase. §  Competent  in troubleshooting electrical & hydraulic systems; §  Clean, Class 1 driver’s license; §  Experience with hauling equipment and vehicle recovery from muskeg, swamp or submerged when required; §  Among other applicable attributes; I’m a certified rescue diver as well as a private pilot with my own plane willing to negotiate for fly-in services. §  Impeccable references available upon request.   I’m asking a rate of $110/hr fully-supplied (versus $175+ dealership rates willing to negotiate on larger or supplied jobs.   I am looking for a contract sometime after the end of June of 2014 which will allow me to finish this year’s logging contract in Alberta, and allow our daughter to finish this year of school before moving.  My wife is from Vancouver Island, we’d all like to return to the island and find a community to call home.
